Wendy S Bolognesi has been a passionate proponent of Asian bodywork since her introduction to Shiatsu in 1978. She studied at the Ohashi Institute, where she was certified as a Shiatsu therapist in 1990 and as an Ohashiatsu instructor in 1992. She has been teaching, practicing, and studying Shiatsu ever since.
Along with her extensive experience in practicing and teaching Shiatsu and other forms of Asian bodywork, Wendy has long practiced and taught Swedish, deep tissue, sports, and seated chair massage. She draws on all her training and expertise in addressing the needs of her clients and sees herself as a facilitator helping clients connect with themselves and their own healing power. To support her clients in their healing she encourages and teaches them to develop their own self care techniques.
In her practice, Wendy treats people of all ages and conditions, and focuses on all body systems, from the musculoskeletal to the emotional. The treatment of PTSD and addiction through the self-application of acupressure is a focus of Wendy’s work and teaching, as are pregnancy massage and canine massage.
In 2007, Wendy began formal studies in Thai massage and traveled to Thailand to study in Chiang Mai with Pichest Boonthume. She enjoys giving Thai massage treatments and can also combine Thai massage with Shiatsu and acupressure on a futon or massage table.
Throughout her career, Wendy has continued to study Shiatsu and Thai massage and their supporting theories with teachers from around the world, including Pauline Sasaki, Carola Beresford-Cooke, Lindy Ferrigno, Cliff Andrews, Lonny Jarrett, Kiiko Matsumoto, Dianne Connelly, Koji Hiroshige and Kumiko Kanayama, among others.
At the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy (BSMT), where she has been a faculty member since 1993, Wendy created and teaches a course in Asian Massage Techniques which focuses on Shiatsu as well as Acupressure and Thai Massage. It is one of many courses she has developed and taught, on her own or in collaboration, at Bancroft and in other settings.
She is certified by the Massachusetts Department of Education to teach a wide range of courses in massage therapy and Asian bodywork.
Wendy’s practice of massage and her teaching have deep roots in the community as well as at BSMT. She treats clients in Worcester, Barre, and Hardwick, MA, and she often presents or co-presents workshops and continuing education classes in community settings.
