Joy Cook, LICSW - Listening Wellness Center
Listening is a non-profit center whose mission is to promote wholistic health and wellness for the Central Massachusetts community. The name Listening is inspired by a Chinese acupuncture point. This point helps you to hear outside sounds and your inner, intuitive voice — creating balance between inner and outer, active and quiet. This harmony is the road to health.

Joy is a skilled clinician with nearly two decades of experience working with children, teens and adults. At the center of her work, is a focus on nurturing the capacity for self-awareness, self-compassion and self-regulation, which she truly believes are gifts we all possess, regardless of age.  She places a strong emphasis on meeting you where you’re at, letting therapy be a process that is on your terms. Joy invites you to engage in open communication by using curious inquiry and reflective listening. In doing so, she offers you (and your loved ones if they’re involved), the time and space to safely explore core beliefs and learned behaviors that may no longer serve you well.

Through a combination of direct communication, compassionate connection and a bit of humor, she has a knack for relating to others with ease, and getting at the tough stuff in a kind, yet efficient manner. Joy uses supportive interpersonal psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and socratic approaches, as well as CBT and behavior modification.

Joy believes that when you allow yourself to develop a deeper understanding of what drives unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, you also develop a clearer understanding of what unmet needs may exist in your life. It is in this space that motivation for change can be re-ignited and clearer paths for growth and development begin. As you experience these “ah-ha moments,” the work can then move into a more active phase of treatment with approaches focused on strategy development to facilitate long-term, integrated change.

While the unfolding of this process is unique to each person, Joy truly believes that when therapy is approached in this way, there is an ease about the process in that it allows individuals and families to safely explore vulnerable areas of their lives and facilitate restorative joy.
Joy invites you start your journey today by giving a call to see if working with her would be a good fit for you. Joy can be reached at (413) 668-8535.
